El MPLAB PICkit 4 programa más rápido que su predecesor PICkit, también cuenta con un voltaje objetivo más amplio admitiendo interfaces más avanzadas, como JTAG de 4 hilos y serial Wire Debug con streaming Data Gateway, a la vez que es compatible con tarjetas de demostración, encabezados y sistemas de destino utilizando JTAG e ICSP de 2 hilos.
